The Best Air-Fryer Roasted Peanuts

Jump to Recipe

Roasted peanuts are delicious, but they can be tricky to cook on the stove or in the oven since their round shape demands constant watching and stirring to prevent burning.

These air-fryer roasted peanuts take less time than oven or stovetop roasting, and best of all, you don’t need to be constantly watching them. Roasting brings out the peanuts’ fragrant, nutty flavor and gives them a beautiful golden hue. These can be eaten as a snack or used in a variety of sweet and savory recipes. Read on to find out how to roast the best peanuts ever!

Ingredients

Peanuts

Use fresh and raw whole peanuts for the best results, and definitely don’t use rancid, discolored, or otherwise off-putting peanuts.

Add-Ins (optional)

Fresh roasted peanuts are incredibly addictive plain, but here are a few flavoring options.

  • Salt (and pepper): Use about ½ tsp of salt (and ¼ tsp of ground black pepper) per cup of peanuts, but adjust based on taste. Toss the peanuts in about 1 tsp of oil per cup of peanuts to stick on the salt and pepper. You may need to alter cooking time if you add oil before roasting: start with less time and add more as needed in small increments.
  • Candied: Heat up sugar in a pan over low heat until it melts, stirring so no spots burn. Pour in the roasted nuts and stir to coat each one with sugar, then spread them on a sheet of parchment to cool. • Spiced: Add your favorite spice blends, using the salt & pepper peanut method for savory flavors and the candied method for sweet flavors, adding the spices to the sugar along with the nuts.

Tips

  • When roasting, add time in small increments. Peanuts can burn very quickly!
  • If a recipe calls for chopped & roasted peanuts, chop the peanuts after roasting so they cook evenly.
  • Let the peanuts cool completely before eating to let them crisp up.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups (250g) raw whole peanuts, shelled

Directions

  • Spread the peanuts in an even layer in the air fryer basket. Set the air fryer to 300 °F/150 °C for 15 minutes.
  • After 15 minutes, the peanuts should be golden and smell nutty. I find that I need no additional time in my air fryer, but if you’d like darker-roasted peanuts, roast for another 3-5 minutes.
  • When the peanuts are done, immediately remove them from the air fryer and let them cool completely. They will continue to cook slightly from the residual heat and become crunchy when cooled. You may hear crackling noises as they cool; that’s completely normal!
  • Enjoy as a snack or use it in recipes like my Sourdough Discard Granola!

Notes

  • If roasting for longer, add time in small increments—peanuts can burn very quickly, especially at higher temperatures!
  • See blog post for flavor variations and when to add them.
