The Best Air-Fryer Roasted Almonds

Jump to Recipe

After roasting cashews, peanuts, and sweet potatoes in the air fryer, it shouldn’t be a surprise that an air fryer also makes the best roasted almonds! Almonds are used so often in cooking and are such a convenient snack so having a quick reliable way to toast them is a must.

Generally I’d use light- or medium-roasted almonds for baking, especially if they might continue roasting during the baking process. For snacking, darker-roasted is my go-to.

Ingredients

Almonds

Check through your almonds to make sure there are no bad ones. Try to buy the freshest ones you can.

Add-Ins (optional)

Like my other roasted nut recipes, the nuts are perfect by themselves but you can always add extras to them.

  • Salt (and pepper): Use about ½ tsp of salt (and ¼ tsp of ground black pepper) per cup of seeds, but adjust based on taste per cup of almonds, but adjust based on taste. Toss the seeds in about 1 tsp of oil per cup of seeds to stick on the salt and pepper. You may need to alter cooking time if you add oil before roasting: start with less time and add more as needed in small increments.
  • Candied: Heat up sugar in a pan over low heat until it melts, stirring so no spots burn. Pour in the roasted nuts and stir to coat each one with sugar, then spread them on a sheet of parchment to cool. Bonus: if you’re looking for a sweet recipe using almonds, check out my Sourdough Discard Granola recipe!
  • Spiced: Add your favorite spice blends, using the salted almond method for savory flavors and the candied method for sweet flavors, adding the spices to the sugar along with the nuts.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups (290g) raw whole almonds

Directions

  • Spread the almonds in an even layer in the air fryer basket. Set the air fryer to 300 °F/150 °C for 10 minutes.
  • After 10 minutes, check to see if the cashews are roasted to your liking. If they are still too raw, return them to the air fryer, adding on 1-2 minutes as needed. For light- to medium-roasted almonds 10 minutes is usually perfect. If you like them darker roasted, you can try adding another 2 minutes.
  • When the almonds are done, remove them from the air fryer and let them cool completely. They will continue to cook slightly from the residual heat and become crunchy when cooled.
  • Enjoy as a snack, or use it in recipes like my Sourdough Discard Granola!

Notes

  • Since it’s a little harder to tell when roasted almonds are done by their external color, you can rub the almond to see if the skin comes off easily. If should be brittle and separate from the almond, and underneath the almond should be a golden brown (see post).
